Voor aanvang van het seizoen heeft er een test plaatsgevonden in Bahrain, alleen Ferrari, Honda en STR hebben daar gebruikt van gemaakt. Onbegrijpelijk voor de liefhebbers van de F1 dat maar zo weinig teams gebruik gemaakt hebben van deze test.
Enkele dagen terug was Alonso daar zeer duidelijk in:

"I think we did the right thing by staying in Europe, but it would have been different if other teams went there too, besides Toro Rosso," Alonso told SportAutoMoto. "There were never more than five cars on track in Bahrain, and the asphalt was always dirty and sandy.
"Every day they lost lots of time cleaning the racing line and just a bit of wind was enough to be back at the beginning. The track will be three or four seconds faster this week for the race.
"I suspect Ferrari, Honda and Toro Rosso wasted their time and money."

Vandaag komt de bevestiging dat Alonso gelijk had:

Button: "De omloop lag er anders bij dan drie weken geleden bij onze test. We hebben dus nog wat werk voor de boeg om ons te verbeteren in functie van de kwalificaties."
Barrichello: "De balans op mijn Honda was niet die van tijdens onze test hier. We hebben nog werk om tegen morgenochtend de juiste balans te vinden voor mijn auto."
