Mali is left in liaison. The course of this first Guinean special takes drivers and riders into highly varied configurations. Trial zones replace fast laterite tracks, and bikers will have to get their feet wet when passing through fords. From a vegetation point of view, you won’t quite need a machete knife! At the finish, as is required for a marathon stage, there will be no assistance vehicles.

Een marathon etappe zonder assistentie. Benieuwd of dit problemen geeft voor Volkswagen: assistentie race truck #539 is uit koers (wegens overschrijven tijdslimiet tijdens etappe 8) en #533 is in de vorige etappe gecrasht.

Vermoedelijk zal iedereen het dus wat rustiger aan doen...

Het kan een tactisch steekspel worden.

Luc Alphand: "I think that Giniel is playing his last joker with the speed he drove at today. That is not a pace safe enough to reach Dakar. Tomorrow I will try and catch Bruno Saby's dust and try and pass without risks, but it could be an interesting day..."

De Villiers vertrekt als eerste, vervolgens Saby, dan Alphand en als 4de Sainz. Saby zou kunnen proberen Alphand op te houden zodat De Villiers meer tijd kan goedmaken; het is immers moeilijk om voorbij te steken op die smalle wegen en met al dat stof.

Miller vertrekt 3 min voor Peterhansel en kan dus een vergelijkbaar maneuver doen

Rangschikking na 111 km (PV1 op live tracking): Alphand, Cox, Miller, Saby, De Villiers. Bij CP1 zullen we zien of Alphand veel kan inlopen op Peterhansel en uitlopen op De Villiers.

Yesterday’s stage winner Giniel de Villiers (Volkswagen) who took off first this morning is still alone ahead. The South African has reached the 110km mark.

Volgens iriTrack lijkt het erop dat Alphand Saby toch is voorbij geraakt.

Problemen voor Cox:

12:03 - Worries for Cox
Former biker Alfie Cox now driving a BMW was forced to stop at km 130. He has damaged his rear right suspension after hitting a rock. He hopes to be able to repair and carry on driving shortly.

12:42 - Cox stopped again
After suffering suspension problems at km 130, Alfie Cox (BMW) managed to repair and take off but the South-African stopped again just 3kms later and appears to have engine worries.

Bij CP1 was dit nog niet het geval, maar bij CP2 dus wel. Gevolg: Alphand is de snelste bij CP2.

At CP2 (km 274), Luc Alphand remains the fastest so far. The Frenchman has a 2’45" lead on compatriot Guerlain Chicherit. Third is Giniel De Villiers at 3’18" followed by Bruno Saby at 5’39". Still expecting Miller and Peterhansel.

Waar is Peterhansel naar toe?

Roma reed bij CP1 nog mooi achter Peterhansel, maar Roma is CP2 gepasseerd en Peterhansel nog niet. Volgens iriTrack zou Peterhansel zich 27 km achter Roma bevinden.

Wow, verliest Peterhansel vandaag de leiding aan Alphand? Misschien maakt De Villiers dan zelfs nog kans...

Overall leader Stephane Peterhansel is stopped at km 278. It appears he hit a tree and is working on the left rear wheel of his Mitsubishi Pajero Evo 4.

Is hij al terug onderweg of staat hij nog stil. Ik kan niet op de iriTrack gaan kijken want zit momenteel nog op school en moet dus tussendoor snel wat komen piepen op de Paddock.

Algemeen betekent dit Alphand 1 en De Villiers 2 op slechts 20 minuten. Het kan dus nog altijd voor VW!

Bij mij staat hij nog altijd op hetzelfde punt. Er zijn al 50 minuten gepasseerd sinds Roma voorbij CP2 gereden is. Dus Peterhansel verliest zeker meer dan 1 uur en Roma zou dus 3de algemeen kunnen worden...

14:37 - ’Peter’ still stopped, Alphand new leader
Stephane Peterhansel was still stopped at km 278 repairing his rear left wheel. He hopes not to need the help of his assistance truck and carry on with a two-wheel drive all the way to the finish. As it stands, Luc Alphand is the new overall leader. He indeed had a 25min deficit before this stage and has already made it to the finish.

Henrard heeft vandaag zijn eigen problemen: 12de gestart en pas als 31ste voorbij CP1.

Feryn en Wauters zijn net na elkaar CP1 gepasseerd en lijken dus een probleemloze dag te kennen.

Hij rijdt terug, maar verliest zeker meer dan 1 uur. Moet hij morgen assistentie verlenen aan Roma?

14:52 - ’Peter’ driving again
After doing their best to repair the rear left wheel of their Mitsubishi, Stephane Peterhansel and co-friver Jean-Paul Cottret are back on track and driving towards the finish line. As it stands, ’Peter’ loses the overall lead to team mate Luc Alphand and would be third overall behind Giniel de Villiers.
