Chevy stopt in IRL na 2005

The Indy Racing League may be about to become a two-horse Japanese marque race, following the surprise announcement that third engine supplier Chevrolet intends to quit the series at the end of next season.

Parent company General Motors has said that, while it is reluctant to withdraw from the IRL, business responsibilities in the general auto market meant that spending on motorsport activities had to be cut back. The company recently announced that its Opel brand would withdraw from the German-based DTM touring car series ahead of 2006.

Behalve de Dollars was er niet veel Amerikaans aan deze motoren. Cosworth had nog ergens een gietplaatje met Chevrolet erop liggen. IRL en Champcars die kwakkelen, ALMS met magere velden, Junior single seaters die afgeschaft of nauwelijks 10 coureurs kunnen vinden. Zelfs Nascar merkt een teruggang in het aantal deelnemers.

Alleen de Daytona Prototypes + Grand Am en de SCCA kennen een beperkte bloei. Nee echt lekker gaat het niet............
